Weather Station Gadget Netatmo

The online store MadRobots suggested that I test a weather station with a CO2 monitor and an Internet connection Netatmo Weather Station .

Netatmo measures the temperature, humidity, pressure, noise level and concentration of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the room, as well as the temperature and humidity outside. WI-FI data is transmitted every five minutes to the Netatmo cloud server. They can be viewed from the browser, as well as using applications for Android and iPhone / iPad.

You can read about how important it is to know the level of carbon dioxide concentration in the room and in time to air it here: habrahabr.ru/post/187210 .

Netatmo is the first weather station with a CO2 level meter.

Technical parameters of Netatmo Weather Station.

Parameters measured by the room module :
Temperature 0-50 ° C ± 0.3 ° C;
Humidity: 0-100% ± 3%;
Pressure: 7.7-37.2 mm Hg ± 0.03 mm Hg;
CO2 level: 0-5000 ppm ± 50 ppm or ± 5%;
Noise level: 35-110 dB.

Parameters measured by the street module :
Temperature -40- + 65 ° C ± 0.3 ° C;
Humidity: 0-100% ± 3%;

Dimensions of the room module : 45 x 45 x 155 mm
Dimensions of outdoor unit : 45 x 45 x 105 mm

Saving data to the cloud : every 5 minutes;
Data storage in the cloud : forever, for free;

Internet connection : Wi-Fi 802.11 b / g / n.
Connecting an outdoor module : radio, up to 100 meters.

Room module power supply : 5V, microUSB from the network through the adapter.
Outdoor module power supply : 4 AAA batteries (work up to 1 year).

Additional features :
Detailed weather forecast for 7 days;
Color CO2 indicator;
Access from various devices: browser, Android, iPhone / iPad.

In the main mode, the weather station does not interact with the computer or mobile devices. It is connected directly to the Internet and automatically transmits readings every five minutes to a Netatmo server. Mobile applications take data from this server from the Internet. In a browser, it looks like this:

Pay attention to the level of CO2 - it was worth sitting all morning with the windows closed and the air conditioner on, and it already exceeds 1000 ppm.

In addition to current data, the weather forecast is shown and graphs are plotted for each of the parameters measured by the station. It also shows the signal level of the street unit (I have it hanging outside the window in the next room at a distance of about 6 meters from the main unit behind two concrete walls), the charge level of its batteries and the level of the Wi-Fi signal.

It is interesting to follow the change for the day. The CO2 level rises at night (yes, I emit carbon dioxide in my sleep :), it gradually decreases during the day when no one is at the expense of the open vent and rises sharply in the evening when I sit at the computer. A sharp drop in 4 nights - it became stuffy for me, I got up and opened the balcony.

See how the temperature and humidity change during the day.

The pressure almost does not change, the noise level depends most of all on when I open the balcony or listen to music. :)

Very interesting opportunity - you can see what other Netatmo show nearby.

It turns out that there are already quite a lot of them in Moscow.

This map can be viewed by everyone, not just Netatmo owners: www.netatmo.com/weathermap

The application for Android shows the current settings when the smartphone is in a vertical position.

And the graphics in the horizontal.

The iPad app also shows the weather forecast and the chance of rain.

The set includes home and outdoor units, four AAA batteries for the outdoor unit, two options for fixing the outdoor unit — a dowel with a screw and a sticky tape, a 5V 1000 mA power supply unit (the station consumes only 20-40 mA), a USB MicroUSB cable.

All done in silver and white Apple style. Even on the box is an iPhone photo.

The outdoor unit is powered by four AAA batteries. They are enough for a year.

The home unit also has a compartment for AA batteries, but in the current version it only works from the network.

Behind the street unit is the mounting slot, behind the home unit are the MicroUSB and USB connectors. The first connector is used to power and connect to a computer, why we need a large USB connector is unknown.

I secured the outdoor unit with velcro to the air conditioner pipe under the window.

It is important that the outdoor unit is protected from rain and sunlight.

At the home unit, a white vertical bar is an indicator - it lights up in different colors when setting up, besides, when you touch the top cover, Netatmo transmits readings “on request” and the color of the bar shows CO2 level (green - everything is good, yellow - acceptable, red - badly).

Initial setup is performed on the computer to which the home unit is connected via USB. When you first start the program NetatmoWizard updates the firmware Netatmo.

Then it connects to your home Wi-Fi network.

To check the accuracy of Netatmo readings, I compared them with the readings of the AZ Instruments 7798 CO2 CO2 monitor datalogger.

The temperature of the Netatmo shows very accurately - the discrepancy did not exceed 0.5 ° C. Humidity always overestimates, sometimes even by 11%. Apparently, Netatmo uses cheap resistive humidity sensors. CO2 readings are fairly accurate - they differ by no more than 20 ppm at low CO2 concentrations and no more than 75 ppm at high.

On the official site of Netatmo Weather Station costs 169 euros . In the online store MadRobots, this weather station costs 7990 rubles , which is even slightly cheaper.

Initially, I did not plan to keep the station myself, but I liked it so much that I decided to use it all the time. Such things make the world more comfortable and “compact”. Earlier, I didn’t even think that I could, while in Paris, watch what the temperature, humidity, CO2 level and noise in my house were.
