NetCraft's July report on http server popularity

The company Netcraft has published the results of the May study of the popularity of http-servers, built on the basis of automated testing of more than 205 million sites.

In July, there were 1.2 million fewer sites than last month. Over the month, the number of sites managed by Apache increased by 1.1 million. Due to the growing popularity of the Blogger service, the presence of the Google’s Google-made server grew by 500,000 hosts. The number of nginx increased by 210 thousand sites.

The decrease in the number of hosts is noted for lighttpd (-446 thousand), which is associated with the termination of service of 690 thousand hosts by the Australian service Savvis. The decline in the share is also noted for Microsoft IIS, the number of hosts under which management has decreased by 648 thousand, of which 388 thousand are lost due to the closure of inactive accounts in the Microsoft Live Spaces service.

If we consider a sample of one million of the largest network sites, over the month the number of sites managed by Apache remained at the same level (decreased by 29 hosts), IIS decreased by 1754 hosts, and the share of nginx increased by 0.23% (+2316 hosts).
