It has just
become known that the joint venture of Nokia Siemens Network agreed with Motorola on the purchase of a unit for the production of network equipment for $ 1.2 billion. The deal should be closed before the end of 2010. After that, Nokia will immediately come in third place in sales of network equipment in the United States and in second place in the world. Nokia staff will be replenished on 7500 new employees.
What will happen to Motorola’s mobile phone division is still unknown, but rumor has it that Motorola wants to get rid of it too. It would be a very symbolic deal, because Nokia is today the world leader in the production of mobile phones, and Motorola went down in history as the inventor of these devices, launching the world's first commercial cellular phone in 1983 (the
DynaTAC 8000X device weighing 800 grams and costing $ 4,000 has caused a real stir in America). However, since then, the affairs of Motorola cell phones have not gone so well.
After the announcement of the deal, Nokia shares rose 1.4%. However, not everyone took the information positively. For example, Eldar Murtazin
expressed that the purchase of the Motorola Network division is the first big step towards Nokia’s death, because Motorola now has nothing worth buying.
