The first 100 GB Blu-ray discs coming soon

Sharp, on July 30th, was one of the first to introduce disposable 100 GB Blu-ray discs to the market. The truth is only on the Japanese market.

The VR-100BR1 disc itself is three-layered and complies with the recently adopted BDXL specification.
According to Sharp, the carrier can hold about 12 hours of video (at 17 MBit / s). Possible write speeds: 2X and 4X (~ 18MByte / s). Disks support the UDF file system, versions 2.5 and 2.6.

This new Blu-ray format is intended primarily for professional archive systems, for example in the medical field or in video production.
To record media type BDXL, as you might guess, requires a special BD-ROM-drive.

The company is silent about the price of the carrier, as well as about the date of its appearance on the European market. However, it is easy to imagine that neither one nor the other will greatly please us.
