Solving the problem of vertical sync in video on Ubuntu 10.04

I wrote this topic in the sandbox, however, thanks to @BSDaemon, I received an invite before it was published.
For a long time I avoided Ubuntu. But recently decided to deliver. Everything is good, beautiful and seemingly stable, but I encountered one nuisance: when watching a video in full screen mode, with bright dynamic scenes, the picture seemed to be divided into parts, and these parts do not fit together:

Immediately make a reservation: I have a GeForce video card, so the problem, as well as its solution, will be relevant for users of Nvidia video cards. Such an outbreak appears only when Compiz is on. Since Compiz pleases me not only with its beauty, but also with its convenience, I was not going to refuse it, as a result of which I began to look for a solution. The Russian forum forum.ubuntu.ru did not please with an unequivocal answer, but all the solutions that were offered there did not work for me (later, as it turned out, one solution was very close to solving the problem, but several important points were missing there).

In the end, having suffered a little, I came to what solution:
1) Who is not installed, install compizconfig-settings-manager
2) Run, go to “General Settings” (General Options) - “Image Settings” (Display Settings)
- Remove the check mark in front of the “Detect Refresh Rate”
- Put a tick in front of "Sync to VBlank" (Sync To VBlank)
- Open the “General” tab and tick off “Undirect redirect windows in full screen mode” (Undirect Fullscreen Windows)
3) Open nvidia-settings, go to X Server XVideo Settings:
- Put a tick Video Texture Adapter: Sync To VBlank
Go to Open GL Settings
- Just put a tick in front of Sync To VBlank
- In the terminal, run nvidia-settings -l
4) In the settings of video players put the output device XV (as a rule, it is already).
')
That's it, now the picture in the video pleases the eye. You can stock up on popcorn and put your favorite movie. Enjoy watching!

UPD: On some ATI video cards, the method also works. We configure only Compiz, a conclusion we do through gl2.
UPD2: Not everyone has a problem. But she has a seat. Who does not have it, it is not necessary to unsubscribe from this.
