General Electric will launch gas stations for electric vehicles in mass production
The theme of "green" cars is extremely popular today. And it’s strange if it would be different - it’s enough to sit for an hour during rush hour in a large city near the bridge over which cars are moving. Through this hour the bridge is no longer visible - everyone clogs the car exhaust. It is clear that this can be observed not only on the bridge and not only in large cities - but it is still possible to feel the pollution. Reading the bare numbers, somehow you don’t have much idea what it all looks like. But I digress. In general, the company General Electric together with the design office Yves Behara are developing a compact gas station for electric vehicles.
This is not just a concept, the development is quite a massive and commercial. According to the same General Electric, such gas stations, called GE WattStation, will be put on stream in 2011. ')
By the way, more than once or twice I saw on Habré that the main minus of electric cars is considered to be a long recharge of batteries. In fact, so far in order to drive an hour, it was necessary to charge about 4 hours. It’s easy to calculate that in order to be on the road for 4 hours (a 4-hour ride while the maximum for an electric vehicle battery), charge electric car would need 16 hours. In general, the situation is not very funny.
But progress does not stand still (I confess, the cliché is very battered, but I like it), and General Electric, in new filling stations, has ensured that the electric vehicle battery is fully recharged in just 4 hours. Agree, this is already something - you can somehow coordinate the charging time with the work in the office, with a business meeting or something else.
I will note that the “home” version of the GE WattStation gas station will enter the market at the end of this year, which cannot but please the owners of electric vehicles (ay, are there any on Habré?). But the commercial, "street" version of GE WattStation will go on sale as it was said above, next year, 2011 in a row.
It seems that such charging stations will perfectly fit into the design of car parks, parking spaces near office buildings and other similar locations. And at home, such a device would look good (of course, what is meant is not an apartment, but a house with a garage). In general, it seems like the idea of switching to electric cars is slowly moving forward, which is good news. It is not a panacea for environmental pollution, but at least direct pollution due to car emissions will decrease with increasing number of electric cars.
