Picasa Web and Picnik are now friends

Picasa Web Albums has added a new option that allows you to edit any photo in Picnik service, purchased by Google in March of this year. After clicking on the “Edit” button, Picasa Web uploads the photo to Picnik, opening the editor window in a new window.

Picnik is a Flash editor, it’s not working very fast, and you have to wait at least 10 seconds before you can finally get to work. The online editor does not have all the features of the Picasa desktop version, but it has a useful “auto-fix” option similar to the “I'm lucky!” Option in Picasa, you can also crop a photo, remove the red-eye effect, automatically adjust colors and straighten the exposure.

Convenience is now that there is no need to log in to Picnik separately, and all changes are automatically saved in Picasa Web after clicking the "save in my albums" button. However, this functionality has been offered by the Flickr service since 2007.

It remains to be hoped that Picnik will be rewritten to HTML5 for greater performance and convenience when integrating with Picasa Web - instead of opening a separate window, it would be more logical to start working with a photo on the spot.
