The story of one illustration: Error 404 for Iconfinder

Each site has a 404 error page. It is needed to hint to the visitor that he has gone somewhere wrong. You should not frighten and upset the visitor with an unnecessarily disturbing page, but the message should be clear to everyone. Some time ago we invented a character for the Iconfinder search engine, it’s time to make an illustration for page 404.

We decided not to split hairs and maintain continuity - the main character of the illustration will be a one-eyed robot. The idea was to show in a comical form that the robot is not in the best shape or it broke altogether. The most impressionable visitors should exclaim: “Oh! Robot something poplohlo! Poor thing .

We came up with different situations when something was wrong with the robot and drew sketches on them.

We showed these sketches to Iconfinder creator Martin Leblanca - he chose the version with a cold robot. The matter became small - to draw a fair illustration. Before that, we thought a little and thought about the fact that it should not be a full-color three-dimensional picture, but an outline drawing - we should not forget that we are on the Error page, in theory, the visitor should not get here at all.
