The battle for the national operating system has begun

Yesterday the information came to the night about the purchase of a minority stake in Mandriva by the NGI fund. According to rumors, the fund is associated with the former Minister of Communications, and nowadays Presidential Advisor for IT Leonid Reiman. The capitalization of the Mandriva company (not to be confused with Mandriva.ru) is € 1.54 million. The amount of the transaction is not specified, but it can be assumed that it is not large.

Today, Kommersant writes that OJSC Concern Sirius, 100% owned by Russian Technologies, is completing a deal to buy, perhaps, the largest free software developer in Russia, Alt Linux. The amount of the transaction, according to "Kommersant", may amount to several million dollars. It is quite possible that Kommersant was quick to draw conclusions.

A positive factor is certainly what the National OS wants to do based on Linux. From previous publications, it becomes clear that Russian Technologies will make both a publicly available software repository and special OS versions (now it turns out that based on the large Alt Linux repository). Of the negative factors, there will traditionally be a huge amount of multilateral negative that accompanies all recent Russian projects related to software. And, of course, endless reasoning, but "why not Ubuntu / Gentoo / FreeBSD / Minix / ReactOS ...".
