Three-minute charging for electric cars

Engineers from the Japanese company JFE Engineering have developed a new charger , with which you can extremely quickly recharge the car battery. In just three minutes, the battery charges up to 50% of its capacity, and in five minutes up to 70%. It is terrible to imagine at what current strength it works.

This is an excellent solution for installation at gas stations, because even the best of the existing “fast charges” can handle longer than 30 minutes, which is a bit too much for a normal visit to the gas station.

During the JFE Engineering tests, the electric car Mitsubishi i-MiEV (in the photo), after five minutes of charging, drove 80 km, despite the fact that its maximum distance from the full charge on the passport is 160 km.

Unfortunately, the super-power charger is quite expensive, you will not put it home. Even a cheaper version (without a transformer) costs $ 60,000. However, this is normal for gas stations. If the certification by the standard of universal charging CHAdeMO passes normally, then such devices will begin to be installed at gas stations in Japan by the end of March 2011.
