Monty doesn't give up

It would seem that the deal Oracle and Sun have already approved all instances. However, Monty Widenius, one of the main developers of the MySQL database, cannot accept the fact that his brainchild fell into the wrong hands. The other day it became known that Monty filed an appeal to the European Court , demanding to annul the decision of the European authorities, who approved the deal.

Recall that the antitrust authorities approved the deal after Oracle published a 10-point declaration in which it pledged to maintain MySQL's competitiveness, make improvements to MySQL, keep the API accessible to developers, etc.

In an interview with the Financial Times, Monty Widenius himself said that he did not want to comment on the contents of the appeal until he received an official response from Oracle. He only added that the Oracle declaration "is not worth the paper on which it was printed" and he would like to receive real guarantees.

Monty Widenius also said that he paid for the filing of the appeal from his own pocket, but he acts in the interests of many people who have signed the online petition to protect MySQL.
