Google is changing the tactics of resistance to Chinese censorship

The saga of opposition to Google and China continues. The search engine takes another attempt to raise Google.cn and work without censoring the results of the issue.

Since Google announced at the beginning of the year that it does not intend to further censor search results, the history of the relationship between Google and China has gone through many twists and turns. For example, the March decision to automatically redirect Google.cn visitors to Hong Kong Google.com.hk outraged the Chinese government. So much so that China has promised to ban the activities of the company, if the redirect is not removed.

And so, Google came up with another move: redirect something he removed, and now when you go to the page, we see, at first glance, the standard search string.

However, when you try to put the cursor or press the button, it takes us to the very same Googe.com.hk, where the user can continue the search or use other services. The person is notified in advance that this will happen and, thereby, leave him the right to choose. It turns out that the requirements of the Chinese government are formally met, and Google has not changed its principles of unacceptable censorship and still provides access to all its services from one page.

It turns out that Google is between the hammer and the anvil - on the one hand, a very promising Chinese market (with the largest number of Internet users), on the other - the requirement of censorship, which does not combine with the policies of the search giant. If the step taken by him reassures the Chinese authorities a little, everyone will benefit from it. But there is a premonition that the Google-Chinese saga is still very far from a denouement.
