Reproduction of Tutankhamen's mummy using 3D printing

The mummy of Pharaoh Tutankhamen has always been kept and will be stored in Egypt. It is difficult to imagine that his remains will ever leave his native country. But not so long ago, an exhibition dedicated to Pharaoh Tutankhamun was presented in New York. Many original items of the Tutankhamen era were brought from Egypt, including chariots, weapons and utensils. The exhibition also included the mummy of the pharaoh itself, but few know that the mummy’s body itself was a replica printed using our 3D technology.

The mummy of Pharaoh Tutankhamen

The original 3,300-year-old mummy of Tutankhamen was scanned in 3D and printed on one of the largest stereo-lithographic 3D printers in the world - Mammoth. It should be noted that Mammoth itself was designed and assembled in Materialize , and there are no similar 3D printers in the world.

Since the Mammoth allows you to work and print objects up to two meters long, the mummy was printed to its full height in a single approach, which is impossible to do using most modern 3D printers. Our colleagues from Belgium provided a video with the full process of 3D printing of this project:
