FBI could not crack the encrypted disk (surrendered after a year of brute force)
Brazilian banker Daniel Dantas was arrested in Rio de Janeiro in July 2008 on suspicion of financial fraud. The police immediately searched his apartment and seized five hard drives with encrypted information. Local experts from the National Institute of Criminology (National Institute of Criminology, INC) used brute force for five months, but they could not find the password. In early 2009, they asked for help from the FBI.
Reportedly, two programs were used to encrypt disks: one of them is free Truecrypt, the second is unknown. Cipher 256-bit AES. According to the FBI report, the Americans used the same method as INC: dictionary password selection. The FBI brutfors lasted more than a year, but also with zero result.
