(updated) The level of reception of the signal on the iPhone 4 drops at times, if you take the phone in hand
Not even a day had passed since the beginning of the shipment of the new iPhone 4, as many users began reporting serious problems with receiving a signal with a new phone. Several videos have already been published on YouTube, which show that if you take the phone in hand, the signal level drops from 4 “bars” to 1 in just 20 seconds, in some cases the phone may lose the network altogether. Apple has not yet commented on the situation, but the most likely explanation for me is a problem with the antenna design.
As is known, the steel sidewalls of the iPhone 4 case are the antenna. At the same time, it is divided into 2 parts - one for receiving the GPS, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth signals, and the other for working with cellular networks. Human skin (especially wet) conducts electrical current, and, taking the phone in hand, we actually short the two antennas. The reduced length of the antenna increases, and it is rebuilt from the resonance. Despite the seriousness of the problem (which shows how bad Apple is with the testing of products), you can most likely solve it by buying a branded accessory “bumpers” . For only 30 bucks, you would get an insulating pad for the conductive sidewall. Video with a demonstration of the problem - under the cut. ')
UPD2: Apple in its statement actually acknowledged the hardware nature of the problem, as well as the fact that no fixes should be expected. Could at least give free bumpers, but would prefer, apparently, to save the returns of vehicles:
It was a little better than others to follow. Wireless phone. If you’re ever having experience of your iPhone 4, you can use it.
