As we approach the end of August, the activity in the preparation of the Chaos Constructions Computer Festival 2010 increases. As in previous years, the festival will be held in St. Petersburg on the last weekend of August - the 28th and 29th (including the night). The venue will be announced later. We are starting to accept applications for participation in the exhibition . The exhibition at Chaos Constructions is one of the main areas. Traditionally, the owners of old, rare or to some extent interesting computer exhibits bring them to demonstrate to the general public.
Here are some of the computers that were shown on CC in previous years:
Commodore SX-64 . The first portable color computer. The SX-64 was essentially a portable version of the Commodore 64, well-known as the progenitor of the demo scene : its outstanding graphics and sound hardware has been inspiring video effects and computer music for more than 20 years to create a demo for this platform.
3Com Ergo Audrey . One of the first Internet consoles, released in the early 2000s. Had an onboard browser, email client, calendar organizer, also had the ability to synchronize data with Palm devices. Oh, if the device was realized at that time by the market, where would be the Apple iPad now! ..
Calculators and computers of the Soviet production . The Soviet industry produced such a wide range of electronic devices both for home and for production, that in our current, bustling electronics age, it is even difficult to imagine why we know so little about it.
UNIX workstations . Nowadays, the domination of Windows, Linux and Mac OS X very few people know that on the tables of specialists the workstations lived remarkably and functioned under the control of such systems as IRIX, HP-UX, Sun OS and others. For its time, the machines were very productive and well-suited to their range of technical tasks. CC has seen workstations such as SGI Indy, HP 720/16, pieces of 7 different vintage Unix emulators, Sun JavaStation, designed exclusively for running Java applications, and others.
Apple computers . Almost the entire history of Apple Apple computers from Apple IIe to almost modern iMac was presented in different years.
A special place of honor is occupied by homemade people - people with soldering irons inserted in their hands, smelling of rosin and solder. Over the years, improvements were presented to existing platforms - additional fees and improvements to existing or existing computers - and developments made from scratch.
So, if you have some interesting computer and you want to brag about it, or you have done something unique with your own hands, write to us at expo@cc.org.ru! Chaos Constructions 2010 is waiting for its heroes.
