Die on the bright side or the Future hangs on you - Mobile Internet Test in Moscow

I am Anton Korobkov. Journalist, producer and presenter. A typical day for me is 10-15 hours online. From mobile, laptop and any iron that has access to the Internet. For almost two years, the problems were solved with the help of a “whistle”, which, however, does not take very well at my house (VDNH) and barely pulls in Ostankino.

The first "savior" - a modem from Beeline, was purchased at Euroset near the house on Friday, June 11 (who knew that this would be fatal). According to the seller’s assurances, the modem is not just compatible with MacOS, but almost specifically “this is all round and smooth to look beautiful with a MacBook.” Instructions for the modem - 16 pages on which he signs in detail how and where to click the “My Computer” button and not a word about how to connect this piece to the MacBook.

“Stuck” didn’t want to connect

At Beeline’s support service, they first said that they had no idea how to connect a modem to a Mac. Then they deliberated for a long time (hung on the line for about 15 minutes), if MAC OS X version 10.6.4 is supported, as a result, the operator said the following: “Well, in general, this ... We accepted a request about the problem from you, but we have special technical support who understands the Macs will be only after the holidays - on Tuesday (four days later!) , and now you just drop money on your account just in case - it will suddenly work . ” At this time, different drivers were actively advised on Twitter (in particular, what if raevvictor www.zte.com.au/downloads/software/MF626_MAC_UI_M02.zip suddenly came in handy? After installing the last modem earned, but ... as promised - after the holidays. Suddenly and with merciless speed of 8 kb / s (at ENEA).

The next was MTS. In the manual, the same description of the installation on Windows, not a word about the Mac (who thought that “makovody” is a premium audience? Not for MTS, exactly) . The modem earned about 10 minutes after connecting, with a speed of ... 3.78 kb / s - approximately at that speed about 10 years ago, my modem worked on the home line.

The third was Megaphone, they turned out to have exactly the same MTS modems, so to my surprise, after each other, they require reinstalling the drivers - it takes from 2 to 10 minutes. The fact is that the modems are absolutely the same, so the computer tries for a long time to figure out exactly who it is dealing with - and then, in error, it loads the Megafon client for the MTS modem, then vice versa.

But what a surprise it was when the modem still earned:

That is, it is not just NOT the mobile Internet, but let's say, in order to send 200 megabytes of photos to a friend, it's easier to burn them to a DVD disc and take it yourself - the data transfer speed will be higher at times.

The next day I was on business in Mosrentgen (a suburb of Moscow, Mr. Kononenko-Parker still lives there) in order to disgrace the providers with the following video:

And the next day I just got out of the car on Vasilyevsky Spusk:

There were a lot of reviews on Twitter and YouTube, then the third video appeared, the fourth ... I still travel a lot every day in Moscow, spend 10 minutes - not so much, but the innovations glorified in the media and out-of-town modernization are clearly visible - the Internet is bad in Moscow.

As a result, the project was born - the site zamerim.net , where I post the results of my tests. With such a clear “benefit”, it will be difficult for operators-providers to tell rainbow stories about ultrahigh-speed mobile Internet in Moscow.
