Dev-Team wizards, who were repeatedly spotted for jailbreaking and unlocking the iPhone almost from the moment they appeared, updated some of their tools specifically for iOS 4 already several hours after its release. However, there are objections to this odd.
On Monday,
Dev-Team used their blog and
Twitter to announce the update of individual tools for iOS 4. However, at the moment, events are developing on the principle of “good news, bad news”.
The first message concerned the update of ultrasn0w, a basic Dev-Team tool for unlocking iDevice installed using Cydia or Rock. Previously, ultrasn0w could only unlock the device using modem firmware from 04.26.08 (or baseband), which meant that the phone, your own iPhone 3GS, for example, had to be carefully restored with a special firmware created by Dev-Team's PwnageTool, in order to be able to run the latest firmware version 3.1.3, still running on the old unbroken direct transfer.
The good news is that ultrasn0w 0.93 can currently work on programs from 04.26.08 to 05.13.04, among which there is also a transfer for iOS 4 update, also published on Monday. Simply put: everything turned out that before iPhone 4 you can unlock and use it on any GSM carrier.
The bad news (at least for owners of new devices) is that at the moment reliable jailbreak tools exist only for the iPhone 3G and second-generation iPod Touch. For those of you who still use the second generation iPhone 3G or iPod Touch, redsn0w 0.95b-3 from Dev-Team is now available, and in combination with the update ultrasn0w 0.93 will help you get completely hacked, activated by the hacker method and unlocked iPhone 3G with iOS 4.
Meanwhile, the Dev-Team is working hard to update its jailbreak tools for new devices, such as the third-generation iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch, and you can even argue that they will be attacking iPhone 4 this week as soon as they get it. In the meantime, owners of such phones need to be patient and not be tempted to use other hacking methods.
Hurry up - make people laugh, right?
If you are in any doubt, ask a question in the official
Dev-Team blog or on their
Twitter page before doing anything you will regret in the future.
