The Russian army through the eyes of IT-shnik. Prologue

Surely many of Habr's readers (and writers) living in Russia ran from the military registration and enlistment offices, woke up in a cold sweat from a doorbell in the morning during the call and thought about the question - how could I get a military ticket as soon as possible. So for me the answer to this question was the most obvious, but the most unexpected (at least for my friends) - to serve a year in the ranks of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. Do not serve anywhere, but in a very specific place and with some clean (and not very clean) IT-tasks for the duration of the service. About what came out of it, or rather, it turns out, I will try from time to time to write on Habré, if it seems interesting to you.

The most difficult thing in the army is the first days. Here everything is not the way you are used to, but what is customary is reduced to the absurd. Everything that is not allowed is forbidden here (and not vice versa!). Here respect is earned not by the mind, character and deeds, but by the term of service. Here you need to do something not to achieve results, but not to sit idle.

A few hours ago, the 33rd day of my stay here began, and I am just starting to take the first steps in the tasks that the unit commander set for me even before I came here. What is the problem? In what we call the “context change”. You can not sit back and go about your business. If suddenly a soldier who has served more than you has a problem (for example, he urgently wants to drink tea), you will have to solve it instantly. The fact that you are now performing the important task of the commander does not bother anyone. Here you will pour tea and continue to do it until you are asked to pour boiling water, remove it from the table, or do some other such crap. And these people do not understand that even the answer to a simple question on time focused programming hinders the work very much. What to say about distraction for 5-10 minutes, which knocks out of the rut in full.

But with these difficulties we will soon cope and in full force we will deal with the total informatization of the unit. So there will soon be more positive reasons to write from here on Habr!

PS If it seems interesting to you, then I have matured a small article on what is hindering progress in our army (at least in terms of military service).
