WordPress 3.0 “Thelonious” The thirteenth version of WordPress, the culmination of half a year of work of 218 participants, is currently available for
download (or
update in the admin panel ). New features in this release: The new default theme is called “Twenty Ten.” The new API interface for themes allows developers to easily implement their own background, headers, menu (without editing template files). Developers and site owners will appreciate the long-awaited merger of WordPress and WordPress MU: the creation of new multi-sites will allow you to run one blog or 10 million blogs with one installation. As a user, you will love the new lightweight, context-sensitive help. 1217 bugs fixed, additional functionality introduced, update mechanism, allow updating 15 plug-ins with one click and much more ... To see what has improved in the new version, visit
the Codex page about version 3.0 , or a
long list of innovations, in Trac . (We are trying to make these announcements shorter) Yeah! One release included a lot of things.
Future I would have to say here that we are going to start working on 3.1, but this is not the case. We're going to move away from the series of new versions to focus on what is associated with WordPress. The growth of the community is breathtaking, including more than 10.3 million downloads of version 2.9, but so much of our efforts focused on the “core” WordPress that there was not enough time for everything else. Over the next three months, we will be divided into ninja / pirates teams focused on various areas related to WordPress, such as: Code, forums, profiles, updates and API compatibility, the topics section, the plug-ins section, e-mail lists, “core” plugins, wordcamp.org ... the possibilities are endless. The goal of these groups will not be to improve everything all at once, but simply to do something better than today. We believe that time costs will provide a good base for WordPress.org growth for tens of millions of users who will join us in the 3.X release cycle.
Acknowledgments I am pleased to acknowledge the contributions of the following 218 people working on version 3.0. These are the people who make WordPress what it is today, whose collaboration and hard work allows us to build more than just the sum of individual efforts. In alphabetical order, of course:
