You can have a different attitude to the development of Mono, someone can not stand it, considering that this odd job only delays the forces of the community, which can be directed to more pressing tasks. Others, on the contrary, are pleased that the project makes it possible, using the C # language, to write applications for the three most popular platforms - Microsoft Windows, GNU Linux and Apple MacOS X.
Anyway, People use this platform and use its tools. One of the main tools - MonoDevelop announced the release of a new version.
The environment itself visually copies Microsoft Visual Studio and may be interesting not only as a development environment for Mono and .Net applications, but also as a replacement (for the first time) of MSVS for developers migrating with MS Windows as it understands the .sln project files
IDE Official ReleaseA complete list of changes can be found
here , and if in brief:
- development environment improvements, such as appearance, new dialogues and scaling
- MS Windows console and Apple MacOS X support
- editor improvements (improved recognition when highlighting characters, autocompletion, hints, etc.)
- many improvements in the debugger
- updated development environment tools, in particular new HEX editor
- improved integration with MacOS X
- added translations into six languages (including Japanese and Chinese)
Improved compatibility with WCF, but full support, as I understand it, is not.
Mono 2.6.1 and GTK # 2.12.8 are required to install and operate the environment.
In the near future plans of developers:
- Integration with git (via GitSharp)
- Android support
- code templates
- basic support for C # 4
I wish good luck to the project in further development.
