Together with scientists from the Fraunhofer Institute and specialists from Bang & Olufsen, Audi engineers created a prototype of a
car audio system of the future that, in terms of sound quality, will not be inferior to the most expensive home theater. In the prototype based on the Audi Q7 SUV, speakers were installed around the entire perimeter of the car, creating an “intelligent” sound space, where sound is rendered using WFS (
Wave field synthesis ) technology.
These delights are needed to ensure that the sound quality is ideal for each of the passengers.

The 32-channel system includes 62 speakers, including 5 high-frequency, 52 mid-frequency, 4 low-frequency and one 12-inch subwoofer.

When WFS will appear in production cars - it is difficult to imagine. Perhaps never. Judge for yourself: the arrangement of the Audi Sound Concept cost 10 million euros, and auxiliary equipment, computers, amplifiers and wires occupy the entire space in the trunk.
