LG Display and iRiver have created a joint venture for the production of electronic books
LG Display and iRiver have created a joint venture L & I Electronic Technology for the production of electronic books. The functions of LG Display include the supply of electronic paper for "readers", which will develop and produce iRiver. The transaction cost partners five million dollars, of which 51% was provided by LG Display.
The first e-book produced at the iRiver factory in China will be released under the iRiver brand. On the timing of release and the technical characteristics of the new product is not yet known. It is assumed only that the device will be equipped with a monochrome screen. It is also known that by 2012 the partners intend to start publishing books with flexible color displays.
Recall that iRiver, a relative newcomer to the e-book market, this year presented the Story device to the public, an analogue of the Kindle book.
