Nokera N100: the first solar-powered bulb

Hong Kong company Nokero announced the release of the world's first solar-powered light bulbs . By “first in the world,” Nokero marketers obviously mean the first light bulb with a standard base. Although the lights on the photocells - a dime a dozen, but the light bulb really was not there before.

Recharging on a typical sunny day, the Nokera N100 provides more than two hours of relatively bright light in the evening (4 hours from full charge). It is assumed that in the third world countries such bulbs can easily replace kerosene lamps: residents of African villages will take them outside to recharge. Currently, about 1.6 billion people on Earth do not have access to electricity.

The waterproof bulb is equipped with four solar panels, five LEDs and an AA-size NiMH rechargeable battery with a service life of more than two years. One light bulb sold for $ 15, three pieces for $ 13, and in a case of 48 light bulbs the price drops to $ 10.

If you think that the product is not so innovative, then you are right. In fact, in the third world countries, cheaper and high-quality solar-powered lights have long been used, and in many villages even in Russia you can see garden lights on photocells worth a few dollars.
