Linden Lab cuts 30% of staff

It seems that Second Life developers are not doing too well. Yesterday the company announced a reduction of 30% of its employees. As stated in a press release, this is done with a view to "restructuring". Under the reduction were programmers outside the US and support staff. Now the development department will be completely American: development offices in the UK and Singapore are closed.

The new strategy of Linden Lab is to make the "second life" available through the browser, without having to download a separate software. In theory, less personnel will be required to develop and maintain this version of the game.

In addition, Linden Lab is trying to promote Second Life in social networks. In theory, this is quite logical, because virtual reality in 3D can be a natural extension of social networks. But how to make such integration and what will come out of it - nobody knows yet.

However, in the financial sense, Linden Labs is still far from death. Last year, this company was estimated at $ 650-700 million, so if the reforms go well, Second Life may again fall into a wave of popularity, miracles happen.
