Google Voice integrated into Gmail

Google is testing a new feature that makes Gmail chat even more useful: users will be able to make and receive calls via Google Voice right in the Gmail window. A new phone icon in the Gmail chat opens a special number dialing window with the ability to find the contact you need, the current balance and — most needed — the call button.

Now in order to make a call through Google Voice, you need a phone. To do this, you go to the Google Voice website, enter the desired phone number and wait for the Google Voice service to call your phone and connect you to the called party for free. Or you can use a special application for your smartphone.

The new feature will allow users to make voice calls directly through the browser window. Developers use technology from Gizmo5, a VoIP service purchased by Google last year.

At the moment, Google Voice, integrated into Gmail, is not publicly available, as it is still under testing.
