In late April,
ASUS presented the public a new
Republic of Gamers (ROG) series motherboard, called the
Crosshair IV Formula . The board is focused both on the gaming audience, and on enthusiasts for whom the regular operating modes of the system are not enough.

From the moment of opening the box, the motherboard fascinates with its design - black textolite, on which are black and bright red expansion slots, radiators of an unusual design and a proprietary red “Start” button. Instantly it seems that in the hands is not an ordinary motherboard, but an elite product that will satisfy any needs within reasonable limits.

The latest AMD 890FX chipset will allow the most demanding users to install the latest six-core Phenom II X6 processor and hard drives with SATA 6Gb / s interface. High-quality power subsystem, made under the 8 + 2 scheme, ensures stable operation both in nominal mode and in overclocking.
Thinking that everyone was accustomed to standard iron reviews, a new idea of submitting a review came to my mind. What I will try to embody in this material, talking about what Asus developers have done for the convenience of enthusiasts.
As befits the top products, there is a set of system control buttons on the board.

Let's start with the exclusive Core Unlocker feature, which allows you to unlock disabled kernels in the processor (for example, you can unlock the Phenom II X3, which is based on the Heka core). Nearby you can find Turbo Key II - it allows you to automatically overclock the processor and test the stability of the system in this mode. Last but not least, pay attention to the system reset button, which is already familiar to high-end products.

Next to the memory slots is another useful button - Go Button, which allows you to start the system if there is a conflict between the motherboard and memory. Of the distinctive features, let us single out the presence of contact pads for measuring voltages:

Among the connectors familiar to us for connecting additional devices, there is a CMOS reset button, which can help out beginner overclockers who set the wrong system settings.

At first glance, everything in this board is perfect, and what can we expect in practice? Take the AMD Phenom II X6 Black 1090T, a pair of standard DDR3 memory modules and run a few tests:

Crosshair IV Formula shows excellent results in all benchmarks performed - in nominal mode we got 7.892 seconds in wPrime 32m, 19.7 seconds in SuperPi 1m, WinRar processes data at a speed of almost 2700 KB / s. 3D rendering in CineBench was rated at 5.17 pts, according to CPU tests in 3DMark 06 and 3DMark Vantage - 5711 and 16391 points, respectively. And in the integrated test CrystalMark the result is 170274 points. And let it be that the performance of top-end Intel processors is still far, but among the platforms for AMD processors, this board is out of competition!
