Olympus cameras sold with a virus in the internal memory
The Japanese division of Olympus issued a warning for owners of digital cameras Stylus Tough 6010 (in Russia went on sale in July 2009 under the name µ TOUGH-6010 ). An autorun virus was found in the built-in flash memory of this camera, which runs when connected via a USB port under Windows. The virus infects the OS, and then other USB-drives. According to company estimates, 1,700 cameras turned out to be infected. You can check the serial number of your camera for infection through the Japanese-language widget on the official website. Olympus offers the deepest apologies and promises to strengthen quality control on the assembly line in the future.
This is not the first time that gadgets are sold with viruses. Just last week, the boot virus was detected on the flash cards of the Samsung Wave phone , and even earlier on TomTom (2007) and Apple Video iPod (2006) car navigators . In early 2010, IBM accidentally distributed USB flash drives with a virus at a computer security conference.
