Infographics in every day gaining new positions in design, in the media, in blogs Why does Infographic design get such distribution?

Why infographics?

First, this is an excellent visualization of the data, and as you know, 90% of the information a person receives through sight and only 10% through the rest of his senses. Secondly, simple and original visualization is much clearer and better absorbed. I think it can go on indefinitely.

Infographics are different because they mean reference or illustrated information provided by various visualization methods — using graphs, charts, histograms, mental maps (mind maps), timelines (one of the basic principles of animated infographics), etc. .

We should also mention such a thing as information density (data density). By this criterion, infographics can be divided into two types:

Through various ways of visualization, skillful authors manage to colorfully and simply present complex and boring numbers. Infographics are universal in terms of their scope - economics, politics, sports and of course, people, we are with you. Creating an infographic is not an easy process, as it goes through the following steps:

  1. Formulation of the goal of creating infographics and definition of the audience. Information design being developed is usually intended for a target audience.
  2. Collect a certain amount of data, material on the topic . The data is presented in various formats - textual content, graphics, video materials, tables of tables and so on ...
  3. Analytics and information processing The collected material must be analyzed and processed, lead to one denominator - usually these are unformed graphs, histograms ...
  4. Building an accessible visualization, layout . All material is assembled, given in a beautiful clear view. The format is selected (depending on the goals and the amount of data) - presentation, slide-cast, single-page picture, video.

Edward Tufti conducted an analysis of American publications on the subject of concentrated information design. The formula for calculation was invented by him, he counted the number of digits and divided by the area involved:

A source
Average number of digits per 1 inch
Scientific publications
21
Wall street journal
nineteen
The economist
9
New york times
7

“The Wall Street Journal is on a par with scientific publications, thanks to statistics on the movement of stock indicators. Mass publications are already going by a very large margin, although Taffy considers this obstinacy unjustified for the masses - school, college and university teaching materials are much more complicated, which means that the audience is accustomed to perceiving complex data, and mass publications lead to some degradation.
