DNA discoverer received as a gift a record of his genome on two DVDs

Richard Gibbs, director of the Human Genome Sequencing Center, and Jonathan Rotberg, founder of 454 Life Sciences , donated to James Watson, one of the pioneers of DNA structure in 1953, to record his genome on two DVDs.

The Watson DNA 45 was used for sequencing (translating genetic material into electronic form) by Rotberg's 454 company - the transfer of the genome took 2 months and cost less than $ 1 million. The sequencing results were checked and analyzed at the Gibbs center.

Watson spoke about the need for sequencing more individual genomes for the sake of science, and also urged people to allow scientists to explore their genomes and characteristics to find dependencies. Actually, he himself did so.
