Sony believes that in five years, e-books will become more popular than paper

The head of the Sony e-reader department, Steve Habra Haber, said that in five years the number of e-books produced would exceed the number of regular paper books produced. Three years ago, he thought that this would happen in ten years, but now he sees that he was wrong - everything will happen much faster:

There will be more digital content. Three years ago, I used it within 10 years.

Although Sony is releasing electronic readers, Haber believes that there will be a place in this market for multifunctional devices, such as the iPad. According to a survey by the company Marketing and Research Resources, commissioned by Sony in the United States, about 11% of iPad owners purchased the tablet mainly as a device for reading books.

At the same time, Shane Richmond, head of the technology edition of Telegraph Media Group, notes that there is such a problem in the e-book market as bad proofreading. In his blog, he gives screenshots with examples of such small but interfering with normal reading errors as “Hi” instead of “Are”, “Barga” instead of “Barça”, “Saint-âtienne” instead of “Saint-Étienne”. Paper books traditionally have higher quality proofreading.
