On LORE (
Linux.org.Ru ) today
there was news that the company PingWin Software (
PingWinSoft.Ru ) published an
announcement about the start of open
beta testing of its free font package PingWi Typography (PWT), created since 2009 specifically to solve problems with a distortion of the formatting of documents created by MS Office, when opening these documents in OpenOffice.org.
The headsets included in the PWT package were developed from scratch as metric analogs of Tahoma, Arial, Courier, Verdana and Times New Roman Windows fonts (and are similarly called: PWT Tahion, PWT Arion, PWT Courant, PWT Verde, PWT Timer) ; In addition, PWT fonts are designed to improve the display of text on low-resolution monitors.
The PWT test font package is distributed
under a special free license . Headsets are
in TTF-form inside the
ZIP-archive .

Please note: the word “PingWi” does not have the final letter “n”, but this is not a typo, as it was intended.
The release of the final version of the font package is scheduled for September 2010.
