Automotive X-Prize: 25 applicants for 10 million

The first stage of the technological competition Automotive X-Prize with a prize fund of $ 10 million, which we regularly wrote about during the last two years, ended on May 13 in Detroit. The so-called Shakedown was carried out in order to weed out from among the admitted applicants teams that could not fit into the technical requirements.

According to its results, two teams - the German TW4XP and the Italian K-Way MOTUS received the right to take part in the repeated tests on June 16, since they could not reach America because of the Icelandic volcano. Together with them, another attempt to enter the list of the main Race will be undertaken by the Cornell 100+ MPG Team, Illuminati Motor Works, Team EVI and FVT Racing. All of them presented cars that meet the technical requirements of the Automotive X-Prize, but did not pass safety tests. Three more teams - Enginer, Global-E and Western Washington University did not completely suit the judges in terms of technology. They are also admitted to the additional June stage.
