Moving to the “cloud” will allow HP to reduce 9,000 employees

Today, Hewlett-Packard has published a business development plan for the coming years. One aspect is the restructuring of data centers. The company is going to automate and standardize them, turning it into a single computing center. This will allow to consolidate various management platforms, networks, tools and applications that are used in various divisions of a huge corporation. Importantly, due to the transition to the "cloud" by 2013, the company expects to reduce approximately 9,000 employees.

The unification of data centers is part of the strategy that HP began to implement in 2006, deciding to consolidate 56 of its data centers into eight huge server farms .

Instead of reduced staff, 6000 people are hired in sales departments (in HP terminology, these employees are called “delivery resources”), and in 2013 fiscal year, the savings from such a reform will be from $ 500 to $ 700 million.
