50,000 Germans can sue Google

The scandal with the collection of private data cars Google Street View in Germany was quite logical continuation. Consumer protection minister Ilse Aigner (Ilse Aigner) said that by the end of the year, “Google could get more than 50,000 claims” from Germans affected by the unauthorized wiretap of WiFi traffic from Google.

The class action lawsuit will be the outcome of the proceedings that are now being conducted against Google by local authorities. Ms. Aigner said that if the plaintiffs were not only the owners of WiFi-points, but also other users, then the number of lawsuits could be even greater.

Preliminary negotiations have already been held with Google, and it has agreed to propose a “non-bureaucratic solution,” Ms. Aigner said. She expressed particular indignation at the fact that Google refuses to provide for the study of the German authorities hard drives with collected private data. According to Aigner, Google Street View cars scanned about 90% of residential areas in Germany, collecting e-mails and other information, and now it is likely that this data has already been forwarded to the United States.
