Terabytes of Mars images appeared on the Internet

The University of Arizona published over 1.7 terabytes of Mars images taken with a high-resolution camera mounted on the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, a NASA multi-functional automatic interplanetary station.

Now any visitor to the site hirise.lpl.arizona.edu can enjoy the view of craters, deserts and other spectacular landscapes. The images were taken with the HIRISE (High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment) telescope and are (in most cases) gigabyte-sized images with a resolution of 50 thousand per 20 thousand pixels.

“These images should contain hundreds of important discoveries about Mars. We need time to analyze them, ”said one of the project leaders.
