Samsung Electronics
developed a 18.5 'LCD monitor with a power consumption of 6.3W and showed up at SID 2010. At the company's stand, the monitor was connected to a computer via USB 2.0.
It was possible to reduce power consumption by increasing the transparency of the panel and the efficiency of the backlight. The TN panel is characterized by a transparency of 0.93, but the company declined to comment on specific technologies used to improve transparency.

The display is equipped with LED-backlit on the edges of the screen - LEDs have a higher efficiency than those used on existing LCD monitors. However, their lifespan is 30,000 hours, which is 20,000 less than current LEDs.
Screen size on a diagonal is 18.5 inches. The display resolution is 1366 x 768 pixels, the maximum brightness is 250 cd / m2, and the contrast is 1000: 1.

Representatives of the company report that they plan to begin mass production of such monitors in 2011.
