Lawsuit filed against Google due to violation of US privacy law

The Massachusetts provider Galaxy Internet Services filed a lawsuit against Google Inc., accusing the company of collecting and storing personal data of Wi-Fi users, thereby violating US privacy laws.

The lawsuit requires 10 million dollars in favor of the provider and its customers.

Galaxy claims that the transport used by Google to create panoramic photos of Boston and Brooklyn streets was also equipped with hidden receivers for collecting personal and business data transmitted via Wi-Fi networks. It is alleged that the information received was decrypted by Google and stored on its servers.

The president of Galaxy said that there had been no cases of any fraud, but the amount of information collected was too great for it to go unnoticed. According to him, the information received could contain social security numbers, dates of birth, credit card information, passwords, data about visited sites.

Galaxy asks the court to prevent Google from destroying information that could be used as evidence.
