Managing video cards in the new MacBook Pro - gfxCardStatus program mini-review

Having taken full possession of the new MacBook Pro with the function of switching video cards "on the fly", I noticed that the battery life is about two times less than the one claimed by the manufacturer.

The fault was not the fully developed technology of auto-switching of video cards in conjunction with the running “Skype” because of which the system did not want to switch to integrated video from intel.

Then I remembered the program for managing video cards in the new line of MacBooks - called " gfxCardStatus "

The program constantly reports in the system area which of the video cards is currently in use.
Integrated intel

In the program menu, you can choose - to entrust the system itself to switch the video card or select manually which one to use.

I usually choose Intelovskaya when working on battery power (unless of course I am going to run heavy applications to the detriment of working time).
When I work from the outlet, I choose Nvidia, she doesn’t ask for porridge, I’m not worried about the issues of energy saving, and the quickness of the system won’t interfere.

In the settings window, you can choose to use autoupdate, report a video card change using the Growl program, autoload at system startup, restore the previous video card status and save logs.

PS I look forward to updating the system to version 10.6.4 in the hope of using this program for informational purposes only, and the switching function is still entrusted to the system.
