As you know, you can manage your Hyper-V hypervisor using the Hyper-V Manager snap-in that is included with Winows Server 2008. You can also manage it remotely by installing a utility package called
Remote Server Administration Tools (RSAT) on your workstation
But here there is one small snag: unfortunately, although Windows 7 is successfully stepping on the planet, proving that all previous versions of MS Windows should take
a deserved rest to the
dustbin of history , many “by inertia” still use, for example, Windows XP. Unfortunately, RSAT can only be installed on Windows Vista or Windows 7.
What to do to those who do not want, or can not upgrade?
One comrade named Andrei Beshkov wrote on his blog about a wonderful utility called “Hyper-V management console” from a third-party company, Utharam. With its help, you can do everything that the standard Hyper-V Manager console is capable of:
- Monitor multiple Hyper-V servers
- Monitor and change the state of virtual machines
- Create, rename, delete, export, import virtual machines and snapshots
- Connect via RDP to virtual machines
- Differentiate user rights and audit their actions
Download the utility on the
official website of the manufacturer . Installing and working with the utility is rather trivial, and therefore I will not describe in detail, but I’ll bring only honestly borrowed screenshots from Andrei.
')
In conclusion - add two spoons of tar in a barrel of honey. First, the utility is paid. Secondly - this solution is unsupported, and therefore the Microsoft support service will send a straight-through to the forest for any questions related to this utility. Some support is promised by the developers of the software, but I cannot judge its quality - because I did not use it. In general, my advice - it is better to upgrade to Windows 7;)
