Canon has invented a new file format for digital cameras.

Canon is testing a new format that is planned to be used in new digital cameras. About this in his blog wrote the photographer Rob Galbraith (Rob Galbraith) after an excursion to the headquarters of the company.

“Canon plans to offer a new file format for future digital cameras,” says Galbraith, referring to Masaya Maeda, president of Canon image imaging tools. “The format can be used in addition, or instead of JPEG or CR2 RAW, but the company is still exploring these options and has not yet made any final decisions on the choice of format.”

Manufacturers of cameras during the introduction of new formats face a difficult choice, weighing new opportunities with issues of standardization, compatibility and software support. Now, most camera manufacturers use the JPEG format, but top camera models also use the RAW format.

Software companies are also campaigning for changes. So, Microsoft promotes its own HD Photo format, and Adobe - DNF (Digital Negative).
