I read the
announcement of a new cloud hosting and, I admit, I am very glad that cloud hosting is developing in runet. There will be competition, there will be quality.
Based on my own experience of hosting in the Rackspace cloud and the desire to somehow contribute to the development of cloud hosting in Russia, I want to appeal to all of our cloud hosting providers to make a more explicit hosting
rating policy . Literally this:

')
For us, site owners and startups, two things are most important in cloud hosting: 1) that the site will also work
quickly if 50 thousand people will open it instead of the usual 1 thousand people, 2)
how much hosting will cost in the end. The number of cores that are currently working, guaranteed processor power, allocated memory is secondary. It is rather interesting than important.
The essence of my proposal is to present tariff plans in such a way that, in addition to the description of capacities and technical specifications,
there will be real
examples of how much it will cost to acquire such a site with such and such attendance . For example, a Wordpress blog with an attendance of 1,000 people per day will be released at 500 rubles, and if attendance rises sharply to 10 thousand people, the cost of hosting (linearly) will increase to 5 thousand rubles per month.
I will tell you a little about my experience.
Approximately
$ 7 cost me habraeffekt (picture above) for my service, which is hosted in Rackspace.
I promoted my service on Habré about a month ago, and after the announcement, about 40,000 visitors came to the site within 3 days, there were 90,000 page views, and 250,000 inserts were made into the database, of which 50,000 (inserts) were the first two hours (the specificity of the service is such that many inserts are made into the database). And all this for 7 dollars!
The choice in favor of Rackspace was due to the fact that, based on their faqs, I at least roughly had an idea of how much they would pay. (By the way, I don’t regret my choice - I like hosting. And this is not Rackspace hosting PR, but a story about my experience and suggesting how to make “our clouds” better.)
For me, the expected costs were one of the most important criteria, why I did not choose hosting, for example, in Oversan-Skalaksi. I do not want to receive bills "with a surprise."
“Power under any load”, “payment after the fact” - it all sounds so abstract that you don't want to get involved with it. (This does not in any way fall in the direction of Oversan, it’s just really not clear how much hosting costs.)
I urge the community to support my appeal with real examples: indicate in the comments the cost of hosting for which workload you would be interested in. I think this will be a good material for our providers to develop their billing policy.
