About the bright events of our life or the story of a startup

It all started trite. With outsourcing. More precisely with the fact that we are tired of doing it. I wanted to create something of my own. And we had everything we needed: a good team, money, an office, technology worked out at the same outsourcing.

And so, as recently as last fall, I had a project idea. The idea, in general, is simple: a social calendar of events (web2.0 poster). Those. service for searching, creating, discussing and public relations of various events. Beginning from Madonna’s concert in Moscow, and ending with a secret gathering of habraoures with the goal of arranging another Habrarevolution (sic!).

The idea is generally bright and correct: to help people escape from the tenacious paws of the Network and spend more time on “live” communication.

Everything was complicated by two things: there were no similar projects in RuNet at that time (and there are not yet), and the fact that I had no experience in creating and promoting such projects.

At first, I believed that the first difficulty is not complexity, but even an advantage at all (the first to declare oneself is always honorable). But, as time has shown, it is still a difficulty. After all, you can always make another entertainment portal and users will not have questions about what to do with it and why it is needed at all.

It is obvious that our project did not refer to this type. Indeed, the idea of ​​the project is not entirely trivial, because it is not a blog, not a forum with a photo gallery, and not even a social network (according to the next unification of classmates)



Everything here, starting with the idea of ​​planning and searching events on the Web and ending with the commonplace interface of the site, was innovative for the Runet. And immediately after the launch, we were faced with the fact that people simply do not understand how this service may be useful to them.

And the problem is not even that people do not meet offline. Even as they meet: habrashodki , meet.dirty.ru , and indeed if you go to any more or less visited forum, you can find there the branch "Meetings".

Therefore, on the one hand, we have a ready-made service with a good (in my opinion) idea. And there is a target audience, which this service can be useful for. The whole problem is to bring them together. And while, frankly, not very successful.

Perhaps I am not the only one who faced a similar problem. Therefore, I would like to hear the opinion of the community about what to do with the service , so that it could still perform the functions assigned to it.
