I watched World of Warcraft play.

I myself do not play WOW, but I watched as a distance from a few strong heroes should be a bunch of weak players, picking up artifacts are not interesting first. Such looting on the battlefield. Do you think this is something new and caused by the specifics of the game world? Nothing like this.
In Machiavelli's book On Military Art, written around 1500, he writes that troops are always followed by crowds for profit and trade.
In other sources they are called “ribo”. Ribot is a vagabond or beggar following an army to plunder.
However, sometimes the crowd in WOW can provide some help to strong players, as it is on their side. Also, it happened with the crowd of people, as Machiavelli refers to the example described by Josephus in the book “The Jewish War”. Although I suspect that, as in the WOW, we are talking more about finishing off the remnants of enemies than about heroism. :)
And I will make a conclusion from this observation. WOW and similar games create a virtual world extremely well, since the same social phenomena arise in it as in the real world. I think there are a lot of other examples. Although the world is virtual and values are virtual, everything also forms the interaction of people and the same processes.
