According to statistics from the
National Association of Electronic Commerce Participants (NAUET), in 2006 the volume of the Russian e-commerce market grew 2.5 times to $ 10.1 billion, that is, 1% of GDP.
The bulk of this market was provided by the B2B sector, that is, large intercorporate transactions in metal, equipment, energy, agricultural products, communication services, etc. For each of these industries there is a specialized exchange, which trades on the Internet. B2B sector turnover grew 4.7 times last year to $ 6.15 billion.
The volume of government tenders (B2G sector) grew by 22% to $ 2.45 billion.
')
The turnover of retail online stores (B2B) grew by 49% to $ 1.5 billion.
Last year, telecoms, in particular, those belonging to Svyazinvest, showed the greatest online activity. The growth of transactions in this sector amounted to 85% - up to $ 790 million.
The volume of the B2B segment may double this year, believes Anton Nikolsky, executive director of NAUET. If the growth rates of the remaining sectors of the market remain at the current level, then the total volume of the e-commerce market in 2007 could reach $ 16-17 billion.
