open production - arguments for skeptics

We continue to consider the subject of open production . The first feedback appears, questions, doubts, assumptions. A part can already be grouped together - “doubts about the feasibility”, and so, especially for skeptics who consider the idea to be utopian, I begin to give examples of realizations of the ideas of open production .
In order not to mix different things (DIY, peer-to-peer, custom-made production) the main requirements for projects that are suitable for examples:
1. Disclosure of intellectual property (open).
2. Belonging of a product to objects of the real world (metaphorically - not bits, but atoms)
3. Practical value, competitiveness, expediency.
Actually a list of main areas
1. Development of equipment with open architecture Open Source Hardware (OSHW). The topic on this topic has already been posted on Habré Developers of "free iron", earned more than $ 1 million .
2. Development of sports and special cars. Also there is already on this topic on Habré article Industrial Revolution. Part 1. Rally Fighter - a car created by the "crowd" .
3. Manufacture of clothing. Resource, created with the support of the European Union - www.open-garments.eu .
There are areas that are fundamentally suitable for the selected criteria, but apparently due to the tradition of not being isolated as an open source, you can find a lot of house projects in the network that can be implemented, including by subcontracting organizations. Here the separation of information and material component has developed historically. Architects and builders worked without a hard link within the same enterprise, effective architectural solutions were instantiated many times.

Highlighting the common denominator between the above open source development directions, we can definitely say that the greatest results will be achieved in areas where the cost of instantiating a single product differs little from mass production.
As a lyrical digression: open-site projects and robotics projects that, in turn, would be in demand in the open-production infrastructure, could satisfy the openness criteria.

The set of people willing to discuss the topic of open production continues, defining the scope of a startup to support it in runet.
