Central Command seeks Twitter for oil spills in the Gulf of Mexico

As you probably know well, a huge oil spill occurred in the Gulf of Mexico. After the explosion of a Deepwater Horizon oil rig, owned by British Petroleum (BP), oil began to flow into the bay at a speed of a thousand barrels per day. It is expected that this accident will be the largest oil spill in history, by the time it is fixed. Yeah, this is bad. So bad that BP and other organizations that eliminate the spill, suddenly ran out of ideas. And they turned to Twitter for help.

A group of twelve organizations, including BP, The EPA, the US Department of Interior, the Department of Defense, and OSHA, created the Deepwater Horizon Response page to "manage responses". Naturally, the site itself serves for this, but besides it itself there are links to pages on all popular social networks.

On the one hand it is very cool. The site and all these social accounts give users tons of information on the passage of oil, and what has been done to eliminate it. On the other hand, it's a little scary to see a tweet with this content:

Yeah, it seems they can only rely on a public solution to the problem on Twitter.

Let's hope that they need all these twitter tricks to let people know that they are doing everything they can. Let's hope that they have not completely exhausted all the ideas and they do not need Twitter in order for someone to solve the problem for them. Especially if you take into account that a tweet on an account with 4000 followers retweets (and?) Is only 3 times. Maybe they'd better off Ashton Kutcher, with almost 5 million followers, to fix the accident if they really hope for a public decision?

You can send your idea to eliminate the accident, using the special form. If in some way the spread on Twitter really gives a result, then Twitter can receive the Nobel Peace Prize.
