Skype , the founder of VoIP applications and the creator of the universally implemented mobile and desktop software, just made it clear that he has no plans to develop his version for Microsoft’s latest mobile operating system - Windows Phone 7. Dan Neary, vice president of the company responsible for Asian and Pacific region, said: "Skype is not going to develop software for the new Windows Mobile this year." At the same time, he extremely reluctantly spread about the reasons for such a decision. Probably, just like the developers at Mozilla, the Skype developers do not consider that they are provided with all the necessary tools for working with the new OS. Regardless of the reasons, this is a significant blow to the competitiveness of the system, on which Microsoft is currently pinning all hopes on the mobile front, and from which it is already expected that some functions will not be available at the time of release. On the other hand, one should not get ahead of ourselves and make hasty conclusions, since this is not the official refusal of Skype, but only a statement about the current state of affairs from the regional vice president. Only one thing is absolutely clear - there are more obstacles in the way of Windows Phone 7.
UPD: It seems that the quote could be taken out of context. Resource MobileTechWorld became interested in the news, and, digging deeper, found that Dan Neary only excluded Windows Mobile and Windows Phone from the currently supported platforms (which makes sense, since the first is dying, and the second has not yet been released) - such "in plans". So now the question is more likely “when” Skype will start doing it, rather than “whether it will start” at all.
