Feedling - required RSS on the desktop

Thanks to the appearance of RSS feeds on many resources, users have the opportunity to receive updates from their favorite resources without launching a browser. News, comments, notes and updates can now be viewed in the RSS aggregator . This method of obtaining information is much more convenient than viewing the same news feeds through a browser. We should not forget about effective cataloging - the program for working with RSS will allow you to easily split the streams on specific topics.

In general, modern Internet users already know about all the virtues and shortcomings of RSS. This topic is a little about something else. In it, I would like to introduce you to an interesting way to organize work with RSS feeds. First of all, this topic will be of interest to those users who work with large volumes of information. Well, “big” is of course a relative concept, but this note may be useful to those who daily view, for example, 50-150 news feeds.

So, someone uses client programs for work with RSS, someone got used to web applications. In the context of this topic is not important. I would like to suggest a good way to upgrade user interaction and RSS. And help this program Feedling . The application refers to the "open source" and can be found in the vast SourceForge . For those who are confident in their abilities, I will not delay, download the program and customize it to your needs - everything is intuitively simple. Feedling allows you to display RSS headers on your desktop. That's basically all that makes the program weighing about 520 kb.

Feedling will make the RSS reading process a little more efficient. To do this, simply bring to the desktop a group of the most widely read sites, the number of which will depend on the size of the monitor, the font selected and your desire. For example, out of 100 news feeds, 10–15 streams are most often used, which can be just placed on the desktop so that they are always “at hand”. Running through the title with your eyes you will always be aware of updates on selected sites.

The program is compatible with operating systems Windows XP, Vista, 7, and supports the following types of feeds: RSS 1.0, RSS 2.0, RDF and Atom. Licensed under the GNU GPLv3.

Here is a small guide to setting up the program:

Select a directory, install Feedling.

After starting up in Windows 7, no windows appear, the program immediately minimizes to the tray.

Click the right mouse button on the application icon and select the item “Configuration” (Configuration). Here you can add the required RSS feed by clicking the “Add” button. Insert the RSS address, select the desired font, its color, the color of the text when you hover the mouse and the update time. In the section "Proxy" you can make the basic settings of the program through a proxy server. In the "Misc" (Advanced) you can set the grid spacing and the degree of transparency of the background.

An important detail, when adding multiple feeds to the desktop in the Feedling program, they overlap each other and make up a mess of headlines.

In order to distribute the windows in a necessary way, you need to activate the “Move mode” in the program, in which sections with headers can be moved.

Here is the result of Feedling. When you click on the title, the browser starts with the corresponding page.
