GNU / Emacs is a powerful text editor created by the legendary Richard Stallman in 1976 and still evolving. It is distinguished by its documentation, extensibility and the fact that almost everything can be configured here.
Some people use GNU / Emacs not only for software development, but also for other tasks - reading mail, jabber communication, browsing the web, etc.
Great Donald Knut uses Emax , and Linux creator Linus Torvaldswrote about him:
Gnu / Emacs started out as an editor, but its creators built in a bunch of different functions. They wanted it to be an editor that can be programmed, but then the programmer part grew to unimaginable size and the editor became a real nightmare. It includes everything except for the kitchen sink, which is why the kitchen sink often serves as its badge. The program is known as a monstrous monster, which includes more features than the editor might need.
